Eleven years ago, Happy Helpers was founded with Filipina mothers at its core.
As a Filipino social enterprise, Happy Helpers is a cleaning service company composed of mothers dedicated to helping mothers. Founded by two mothers, Maan Sicam and Jo Endaya, who recognize and have experienced the challenges of juggling multiple responsibilities from their own careers to managing a household while still having time to spend with their families, loved ones, and themselves.
In 2014, when Maan Sicam returned to the Philippines after years living overseas, she struggled to find a reliable part-time cleaning service for her home since stay-in helpers remained the norm. She realized that there must be several other mothers and homeowners who needed help maintaining a clean home, so they could spend more time with loved ones and doing the things they enjoy instead of spending hours cleaning their space themself.
While creating the pioneering team of professional cleaners, Maan and Jo interviewed several Filipina mothers from vulnerable communities and were saddened to hear a common sentiment: “Nanay lang ako” (“I’m just a mother”). Unfortunately, there is a notion that when a woman becomes a mother her role is limited to childrearing and housework and her dreams are for her husband and children. As a result, the Happy Helpers mission goes beyond lessening the load for mothers everywhere. Maan shared, “The mission of Happy Helpers is for these mothers to see their value and see the better versions of themselves. So how do we do that? How do we make sure that they feel that self-worth? Because they are mothers. I am valuable because I am a woman, because I am a mother.”
So how do we lessen the load for mothers?

- The Hyla® Upholstery Cleaning Service uses ecological pure water filter technology to remove deep-seated dust, dirt, and allergens from home items like mattresses, sofas, carpets, and many more.
- The Subscription Cleaning Service is for homes in Makati, Taguig, and certain areas in Quezon City and Muntinlupa who need help maintaining a clean home through weekly visits after availing of the Deep Cleaning Service.

And more importantly, how do we teach Filipina mothers to recognize their own value because they are mothers?
As a social enterprise, we go beyond providing employment opportunities for Filipina mothers. First, they work on a part-time, on-call basis for a maximum of 5 hours a day. We recognize that these mothers who compose our team of Happy Helpers would like to earn more and still have enough time to spend with their families and children. Second, we hold regular skills training sessions to ensure that their skills remain updated and to foster camaraderie in our growing team. Last, we offer life coaching sessions where they learn valuable soft skills and values for their overall holistic development. We emphasize financial literacy and each member of our team has their own savings account, and they are encouraged to participate in our ipon (savings) challenges.
Since 2015, we have grown from a small team of 5 Filipina mothers to the 90+ Filipina mothers who make up our current Happy Helpers team spread across 3 branches in Taguig, Quezon City, and Muntinlupa. We will continue to pursue our mission of transforming and uplifting the lives of Filipina mothers from vulnerable communities and are committed to helping mothers recognize their own value and significant contributions for being exactly who they are: Mothers.
